Summary

Molded paper pulp (MPP) cartons significantly reduced eggshell damage compared to expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam cartons when packed in plastic crates. Corrugated boxes generally offered better protection than plastic crates for both carton types.

    • Corrugated boxes provide better protection against vibration-induced damage compared to plastic crates for packaged shell eggs.
    • Packaging material selection significantly impacts eggshell integrity during distribution, with bottom breakage being the most common failure point.
