[Coronary artery bypass grafting technique to minimize the usage of metallic materials]

Some metallic materials are widely used for coronary artery bypass surgery. There is no problem using the metallic materials themselves. However, metallic artifact interferes with the interpretation and reduces the sensitivity of the MRI. To minimize the utilization of metallic materials, we applied absorbable nonmetallic clips and used an ultrasonically activated scalpel to harvest the arterial grafts. We also applied polyester suture instead of the stainless steel sternal wire. We believe this technique will allow increased MRI usage for patients who undergo coronary artery bypass surgery.
