Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is a rare neurological disorder.
  • It is characterized by postural headaches and low cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure.

Observation:

  • A 45-year-old male patient presented with symptoms consistent with SIH.
  • The patient's presentation included severe postural headaches.

Findings:

  • Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure was found to be low.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) revealed diffuse meningeal enhancement, a key radiological sign.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of recognizing SIH and its associated imaging findings.
  • Diffuse meningeal enhancement on MRI can be indicative of SIH in the appropriate clinical context.
