Summary

Melatonin inhibits luteinizing hormone (LH) release by decreasing calcium ([Ca2+]i) and cyclic AMP (cAMP). Increasing these messengers counteracted melatonin's effect, suggesting a dual mechanism.

Background:

  • Melatonin is known to inhibit gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-induced luteinizing hormone (LH) release.
