Plethysmographic measurements of calf blood flow and venous muscle pump functions have been carried out in two groups of patients. In the first group of patients with chronic venous insufficiency the post ischaemic reactive hyperaemia decreased with the degree of clinical severity. In the other group of patients with primary lymphoedema no hyperfunctionning of the arterial system could be found. In this group the venous pump function was markedly reduced.
