Summary

Midazolam, a drug that affects memory, reduced the modality-match effect in implicit memory tests. This suggests some implicit memory processes may not rely on perception, challenging current theories.

Background:

Prominent implicit memory theories emphasize the role of perceptual processes.
The modality-match effect, where matching stimulus presentation at study and test enhances priming, is key evidence for these theories.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the role of perceptual processes in the modality-match effect using midazolam.
To determine if midazolam dissociates perceptual and other components of implicit memory.

Main Methods:

A between-subjects design comparing the modality-match effect under midazolam and saline (placebo) conditions.
Participants underwent implicit memory testing following administration of either midazolam or saline.
