Bronchoalveolar lavage of newborn infants

NB-BAL is a very useful technique for investigating respiratory disorders of newborn infants. It is safe and easy to perform even in the sickest infants receiving mechanical ventilation. Information about the cellular and molecular processes that may be important in the pathogenesis of neonatal respiratory disorders may be obtained especially since serial BAL is possible.
