    Summary

    Total hysterectomy reduced urinary symptoms in most women, though some developed new or worsened issues post-surgery. The study suggests hysterectomy is not definitively linked to causing urinary symptoms.

    • Urinary symptoms are common in women with gynecological disorders.
    • The impact of total hysterectomy on urinary function requires further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To prospectively evaluate changes in urinary symptoms before and after total hysterectomy.
    • To determine the incidence of new or worsened urinary symptoms post-hysterectomy.

    Main Methods:

    • Prospective study involving 104 women undergoing total hysterectomy.
    • Assessment of urinary symptoms preoperatively and at 6 months postoperatively.

    Main Results:

    • 62% of women reported preoperative urinary symptoms.
    • Post-surgery, 11% of previously symptomatic and 25% of asymptomatic women experienced worsened or new symptoms.
    • Overall, symptomatic women decreased to 50% at 6 months post-operation.

    Conclusions:

    • Total hysterectomy led to a net reduction in urinary symptoms in the studied cohort.
    • The data does not conclusively establish total hysterectomy as a cause of urinary symptoms.
