Summary

A midline tuberculous abscess caused raised intracranial pressure by compressing the superior sagittal sinus. This rare cause of elevated intracranial pressure highlights unusual intracranial tumour presentations.

Background:

  • Raised intracranial pressure (ICP) can result from intracranial tumours obstructing venous sinuses.
  • Midline occipital tumours uncommonly cause ICP elevation via non-thrombotic compression of the superior sagittal sinus.

Observation:

  • A case of elevated ICP is presented.
  • The cause was a midline tuberculous abscess.

Findings:

  • The tuberculous abscess non-thrombotically obstructed the superior sagittal sinus.
  • This obstruction led to secondary raised intracranial pressure.

Implications:

  • Tuberculous abscesses should be considered in the differential diagnosis of midline occipital masses causing ICP elevation.
