Abstract
Objective:
To describe a case of adult renal polycystosis causing intercostal hernia with intestinal segment. To our knowledge, no such case has been previously reported in the literature.
Methods/Results:
Diagnosis was by abdominal CT. Treatment was by bilateral nephrectomy and surgical repair of the diaphragmatic and intercostal hernia.
Conclusions:
Surgery is indicated in adult renal polycystosis if kidney size causes gastrointestinal involvement and above all, if the lungs are compromised by the intercostal diaphragmatic hernia.
