Federal healthcare data collection is incomplete and inadequate--report

A new report criticizes federal efforts to collect data on the use of healthcare services, calling them fragmented, duplicative and inadequate for policymakers' needs. The report says a proposed overhaul of the National Center for Health Statistics doesn't go far enough and offers recommendations to steer the project toward more effective results.
