Abstract:
Facilities nationwide are affirming the independence, respect, and autonomy of long term care residents, regardless of disability or impairment, by involving them directly in the decisionmaking process about their care and living environment. This effort toward greater resident autonomy has resulted in serious ethical dilemmas for nursing facilities. This feature explores some of those situations.
