Summary
The 1988 Physicians' Practice Costs and Income Survey (PPCIS) found that while physician cost shares vary by specialty and location, the differences are too small to significantly impact Medicare Economic Index (MEI) and Geographic Practice Cost Index (GPCI) calculations.
