To highlight the emerging role of Computer-Assisted Videodisk Instruction (CAVI) for medical records professionals.
To emphasize the opportunity for medical records practitioners to lead CAVI implementation.

Main Methods:

Survey of 169 health institutions regarding videodisk technology adoption.
Analysis of institutional plans for videodisk purchase and program development.

Main Results:

79% of surveyed institutions planned videodisk purchases within a year.
72% of surveyed institutions planned to develop videodisk programs.

Conclusions:

CAVI presents a valuable tool for medical records departments and hospitalwide training.
Medical records professionals are uniquely positioned to champion CAVI adoption and its benefits.
