Abstract:
Organ donor availability is the major limiting factor in pediatric liver transplantation, and many children succumb from their liver disease before a suitable donor can be found. In an attempt to overcome this shortage, reduced-size liver transplantation, split liver transplantation, and living-donor liver transplantation have been introduced. The eventual role of these techniques will be determined by accumulated experience over the next several years.
