Evaluation of the painful total hip arthroplasty

The evaluation and treatment of the painful total hip arthroplasty requires diligent and disciplined medical management. A careful history and physical examination of the patient with roentgenograms and laboratory studies will provide information needed to treat the majority of these patients. Technetium-99 and indium-III-white blood cell scans may be helpful in more difficult cases.
