Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effects of warming and extended recirculation on blood products using an in-house rapid infusion system.
  • To assess the safety and efficacy of a novel system for managing blood products in high-loss surgical scenarios.

  • Assembled a recirculating rapid infusion system with cardiotomy reservoirs, centrifugal pump, and heat exchanger.
  • Applied the system in six adult orthotopic liver transplantations, priming with fresh frozen plasma and packed red blood cells.
