Studies strive to place fMRI on firm foundation

Research designed to reproduce and extend the scope of fMRI studies found that startling results could be produced, but that there was also a disconcerting variability among subjects. Some patients consistently showed marked changes, others showed little or no effect and a third group displayed quite variable results.
