Hospice. Can it work within managed care?

Managed care organizations often are unaware of the services that are unique to hospice--for example, the contribution of volunteers, the need to enroll patients at an appropriate stage in their illness, and the potential cost savings of dying at home rather than in the hospital. Hospices need to undertake educational campaigns to help ensure their inclusion in a managed care system.
