Abstract:
As information systems in the health care industry become more widely used and increasingly sophisticated, the source data used to make decisions must become more accurate and speedily available to improve the decision-making process. A proven technique for the fast and accurate capture of data by computers is bar coding. This article examines health industry bar coding and some of its many potential benefits, focusing in particular on the Health Industry Bar Code in Europe.
