Getting the green light. How rural hospitals can form a cooperative

As a result of a favorable ruling last fall by the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division, the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative (RWHC) is free to negotiate and administer HMO and other payer contracts on behalf of its members. This is a degree of provider collaboration that is desired but not previously seen as possible by many rural providers who are wary of possible antitrust sanctions.
