The neonatal intensive care unit performs miracles on newborn babies but costs the health care system dearly in return. While most health care providers have been reluctant to challenge the assumption that all of the spending is necessary, one new neonatal disease management service has had the insight to take a different perspective, and the babies are the biggest winners.
