Abstract:
Tamsulosine, an alphablocker, is moderately effective on the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Its adverse effects are of the same order as those of other alphablockers already on the market in France (alfuzosine and prazosine); there is notably a risk of postural hypotension. There is no proof that the risk-benefit ratio of tamsulosine is any better than that of other alphablockers or 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (finasteride).
