Prevention and management of acute renal failure

Acute renal failure (ARF) is estimated to occur in 5% of all hospitalised patients. It is therefore valuable to be familiar with the potential causes of ARF and to be able to identify patients who are at particular risk of developing ARF. This Clinical Update will indicate how establishing routine preventative strategies may be the most effective way to reduce the high mortality and morbidity associated with ARF.
