    Summary

Uretero-vaginal fistulas, often resulting from gynecological surgery, cause constant urinary incontinence. Surgical correction involving ureter reimplantation is the effective treatment for this complication.

    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Gynecology
    • Surgical Complications

    Background:

    • Uretero-vaginal fistula is a rare but serious complication.
    • It commonly arises after gynecological procedures and Cesarean sections.
    • The hallmark symptom is constant urinary leakage with normal voiding.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To present cases of uretero-vaginal fistula.
    • To discuss diagnostic findings and treatment outcomes.
    • To highlight surgical management as the primary intervention.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective review of six uretero-vaginal fistula cases.
    • Clinical presentation and diagnostic imaging (excretory urography) analysis.
    • Surgical treatment details and follow-up.

    Main Results:

    • Five fistulas occurred post-gynecological surgery, one post-Cesarean section.
    • Distal ureteral stricture was identified in five patients via urography.
    • Two patients showed contrast extravasation into the vagina on urography.

    Conclusions:

    • Uretero-vaginal fistula presents with characteristic urinary incontinence.
    • Excretory urography aids in diagnosis, often revealing ureteral strictures.
    • Distal ureter resection and bladder reimplantation offer successful surgical correction.
