Abstract:
On the basis of an analysis of carotid sphygmograms recorded in 79 patients with different parameters of blood flow through the aortic valve, and on the basis of 6 experiments it was found that the pulse of the carotid arteries has a segmental structure. Each segment reflects a certain phase of blood ejection into the aorta. An analysis of 5 constant and of 1 additional (anacrotic) segments is given. The changes in the second segment and the appearance of the anacrotic segment determine the peculiarities of the sphygmograms that are typical for aortic stenosis.
