[Coronary fistula of the left ventricle. Report of a case treated surgically]
Insights
A left coronary artery fistula to the left ventricle was successfully treated with surgery. Given the low surgical mortality, all diagnosed coronary fistulas should undergo surgical intervention.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Surgery
- Interventional Cardiology
- Congenital Heart Disease
Background:
- Coronary artery fistulas are abnormal connections between a coronary artery and a heart chamber.
- Left ventricular fistulas can lead to significant hemodynamic complications.
Purpose of the Study:
- To report a successful surgical treatment of a left coronary artery fistula to the left ventricle.
- To review the literature and establish treatment guidelines for coronary fistulas.
Main Methods:
- Surgical correction of a left coronary artery fistula.
- Comprehensive review of existing medical literature on coronary fistulas.
Main Results:
- Successful surgical closure of the left coronary artery fistula to the left ventricle.
- Literature review indicates a low surgical mortality rate for coronary fistula repair.
Conclusions:
- Surgical treatment is highly effective for coronary artery fistulas.
- All diagnosed cases of coronary fistula, identified via angiography and cardiac catheterization, warrant surgical intervention due to favorable outcomes.
Abstract:
A case of a left coronary artery fistula to the left ventricle successfully by surgery treated is reported. The medical literature was reviewed, and it is concluded that because of the surgical low mortality rate, all cases of coronary fistula, diagnosed by angiography and cardiac catheterization, ought to be submitted to surgical treatment.
