Toward a more representative board: a case history

When a specialty hospital decided to move to a new location, leaving its existing facility to become a community hospital, it appointed a task force of board members and community representatives to open a dialog with understandably skeptical community residents. The selection of the task force and some of its recommendations are described, and suggestions for ensuring successful task force performance are offered.
