Abstract:
The World Health Organization plans and coordinates health action on a global basis. It joins hands with its member governments, at their request, to fight disease and build health services so as to ensure that health care reaches the maximum number of people. Its work covers a wide spectrum of activities, ranging from the fight against most of the world's diseases to the training of health personnel to multifaceted research endeavors. In a single article, it would be impossible, and therefore no attempt is made, to summarize the full range of the work of WHO. Provided in the following pages is an overview of what WHO is, what is does, the structure of the organization, and the activities relevant to pathology.
