Compensation for consultant pharmacy services to long-term care facilities
Abstract:
Little has appeared in the professional pharmacy literature on the subject of compensation for consultant pharmacy services in the long-term care facility. The objective of this paper was to provide an historical review of this issue and to provide a potential methodology for determining the costs to the consultant of providing the comprehensive services as delineated in federal and state regulations. It is hoped that this methodology will become a standard mechanism for states to determine the costs of provision of the required services. The presented methodology indicates that in the region used as an example (central Connecticut), cost of providing comprehensive pharmacy consulting services are ten cents ($0.10) per patient/day.
