Towards a national health program. National health is back on the agenda

The author details the difficulties that recent structural changes in the nation's health-care system have imposed on physicians, hospitals, and patients, and suggests that the resulting dissatisfaction has prepared the way for a national health-care compaign. Unless progressives insist on the democratic control of health care, he argues, the nation will continue to find the terms of that care dictated by corporate, as opposed to public, interests.
