MRI field strength: how important a criterion?

Choosing an optimal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system is one of the most difficult technology decisions facing hospital executives today. Although a belief has persisted that this decision making can be largely reduced to a determination of the optimal field strength, in reality there is no single factor that dictates the optimal system, and field strength is one of many criteria that must be evaluated in considering MRI systems.
