Created equal? The moral challenge of prenatal diagnosis

Prenatal diagnosis, as currently practiced in close linkage with selective abortion, poses a moral challenge of many dimensions. The challenge is moral because it brings into question values that have long served as the normative basis for human reproductive behavior. A moral policy is needed to match this challenge, a policy that will promote the development of effective therapy and the emancipation of the early emerging human spirit.
