AIDS: meeting the needs through therapeutic recreation

Abstract:
As the number of people with AIDS (PWA) continue to increase, so will the demand for therapeutic recreation professionals to design specific programs to meet these needs. After reviewing the epidemiology, transmission and spectrum of HIV infection the author describes the objectives, programs and activities of a therapeutic recreation program for PWA's sponsored by the Gay Men's Health Crisis. Marketing strategies and program plans for three core activities are highlighted: stress reduction, nutrition and volunteering.
