MRI: what are its applications; what will it replace?

MRI is already the optimal imaging modality in several clinical areas and should become preeminent for others in the near future. Hospital CEOs interested in how MRI will develop further may find a review of CT's history helpful, but differences between the technologies and a changed clinical environment will cause MRI to take a different course. Eventually, the availability of MRI should lead to a decline in the use of other imaging technologies.
