The NHS is no longer in a position to simply buy itself out of trouble writes Brendan Devlin, consultant surgeon, North Tees General Hospital. In this article he urges doctors to involve themselves in the financial planning of the service and says that society expects clinicians to spend money wisely and to act as guardians of the taxpayer.
