A study has been carried out of 42 episodes of cardiac arrest related to 90 000 otorhinolaryngological operations. Clinical areas presenting special problems are the surgery of cancer of the postcricoid area, deliberate hypotension, anaesthesia for laryngoscopy and respiratory obstruction.
