Cost effectiveness in utilization of the laboratory

Cost effective utilization of the hospital clinical laboratory requires the acquisition of adequate appropriate information, timely transmission, and effective interpretation by the clinician. We believe that waste of laboratory resources today is due primarily to malutilization, rather than to overutilization. Therefore, it is the purpose of this project to encourage pathologists to take a more active role in facilitating these aspects of the laboratory investigation of the patient.
