Abstract:
Recognizing adolescence as a transient developmental phase characterized by rapid physical growth, emotional adjustment, and sexual maturation can provide the health care team with strategies for dealing with diabetes in adolescents. Hormonal adaptations in adolescents, microvascular complications, emotional factors, clinical management, and issues such as nutrition and sex and marriage are described.
