Summary

Cavernous hemangiomas in the cavernous sinus can cause nerve issues. Gamma knife radiosurgery effectively reduced tumor size, avoiding complications and preserving neurological function.

Background:

  • Cavernous hemangiomas of the cavernous sinus are rare benign vascular tumors.
  • They can present with significant cranial nerve deficits, including abducens and trigeminal nerve paresis.
  • Surgical management is often challenging due to the risk of severe intraoperative bleeding and potential cranial nerve injury.

Observation:

  • A 40-year-old female presented with symptoms suggestive of a left cavernous sinus lesion.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed a tumor in the left cavernous sinus.
  • The patient underwent partial tumor removal, with histological confirmation of cavernous hemangioma.

Findings:

  • Following surgical debulking, the patient received gamma knife radiosurgery.

  • Post-radiosurgery imaging demonstrated a marked decrease in tumor size.
  • No significant morbidity or neurological deterioration was observed after treatment.
