Summary

Telomerase activation was found in over half of complete hydatidiform moles. This finding, along with uterine size and beta-hCG levels, may help predict persistent gestational trophoblastic tumors (GTTs).

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if telomerase is activated in complete hydatidiform mole (CHM).
  • To assess the potential of telomerase activity as a predictive marker for persistent GTT following CHM.

  • Telomerase activity was measured in molar tissue using the telomeric repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) assay.
