Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Heterotopic brain tissue in the head and neck is an exceptionally rare congenital anomaly.
  • Most documented instances occur in the nasal region, commonly referred to as nasal gliomas.

Observation:

  • A case study involving a 10-month-old male infant presenting with heterotopic brain tissue.
  • The anomaly was located on the soft palate and extended into the nasopharynx.

Findings:

  • Successful surgical excision of the heterotopic brain tissue was performed.
  • The patient experienced no complications or recurrence during a 7-year follow-up period.

Implications:

  • This case expands the known locations for head and neck heterotopic brain tissue.
  • Analysis of pathogenic theories and nomenclature provides insights into this rare condition.
