Background:

  • End-stage renal failure (ESRD) affects multiple organ systems.
  • Children with ESRD often undergo regular hemodialysis.
  • Potential impacts of ESRD and hemodialysis on auditory function are not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To objectively evaluate the hearing organ in children with ESRD.
  • To investigate changes in auditory brainstem responses (ABR) related to hemodialysis.
  • To explore the connection between ABR alterations and biochemical parameters of uremia.

Main Methods:

  • Study included seven children (aged 6-17) with ESRD undergoing hemodialysis.
  • Pure-tone audiometry was performed.
  • Auditory brainstem responses (ABR), including latency and interpeak latency, were measured before and after hemodialysis sessions.
