Summary

Children develop sit-to-stand (STS) skills with age, improving coordination and balance. Younger children show less refined movement patterns, while older children exhibit more adult-like control of momentum during STS transitions.

Background:

Effective sit-to-stand (STS) is crucial for daily function.
Limited research exists on developmental changes in STS coordination.

Purpose of the Study:

Investigate inter-segmental coordination during STS in children.
Compare STS movement patterns across three age groups: 12-18 months, 4-5 years, and 9-10 years.

Children performed STS from an adjustable seat over a forceplate.
Reflective markers tracked segmental kinematics.
Vertical ground reaction forces were measured.
