Urachal tumours are rare in children, typically being adenocarcinomas. This case highlights an unusual presentation of a 6-month-old infant with a urachal mass diagnosed as neuroblastoma, a highly uncommon finding.

Background:

  • Urachal tumours are exceedingly rare in pediatric populations, accounting for approximately 0.01% of all childhood tumours.
  • Common urachal neoplasms include mucinous adenocarcinoma and, less frequently, transitional cell carcinoma.

Observation:

  • A 6-month-old infant presented with a palpable urachal mass.
  • Diagnostic imaging and subsequent biopsy were performed to investigate the mass.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination revealed the urachal mass to be a neuroblastoma.
  • This diagnosis is highly unusual for a urachal neoplasm in this age group.

Implications:

  • This case expands the differential diagnosis for pediatric urachal masses.
