Summary

Adjuvant chemotherapy after standard treatment for head and neck cancer shows promising survival rates. This study suggests further randomized trials are needed to confirm the benefits of this moderately intensive chemotherapy regimen.

  • To assess the feasibility of moderately intensive adjuvant chemotherapy following standard treatment for head and neck cancer.
  • To evaluate if this adjuvant chemotherapy approach improves survival compared to historical data.

  • Two patient groups received adjuvant chemotherapy: newly diagnosed (Stage III/IV) and relapsed disease post-surgery.
  • The regimen included two cycles of cisplatin, bleomycin, and infusional 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), followed by four cycles of methotrexate, 5-FU, and bleomycin.
