Summary
Isolated retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts are rare, with one case found intradiaphragmatic. Imaging suggested other masses, but pathology confirmed a bronchogenic cyst, with a positive prognosis.
Area of Science:
- Medicine
- Surgery
- Pathology
Background:
- Retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital anomalies.
- Intradiaphragmatic location is exceptionally uncommon.
Observation:
- A case of an intradiaphragmatic mass intimately associated with the left crus diaphragmatic musculature was identified.
- The mass was unconnected with adjacent structures.
Findings:
- Ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) suggested a pancreatic or adrenal origin.
- Pathological examination definitively diagnosed a bronchogenic cyst.
Implications:
- This case highlights the importance of considering rare diagnoses even with atypical imaging findings.
- Early diagnosis and surgical intervention lead to favorable outcomes for intradiaphragmatic bronchogenic cysts.
