Summary

Heart transplantation improves lung function like FVC and FEV1, but can decrease diffusion capacity (TLCO). Pre-transplant lung health impacts post-transplant TLCO outcomes, suggesting other factors cause diffusion impairment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the impact of heart transplantation on pulmonary function in patients with chronic heart failure.
  • To evaluate changes in spirometry and diffusion capacity before and after heart transplantation.

  • Pulmonary function tests (FVC, FEV1, TLC, TLCO, KCO) were performed on 41 heart transplant recipients pre-transplant and 6 months post-transplant.
  • Statistical analysis, including multiple regression, was used to evaluate changes and associations.
