Urinary platelet-activating factor excretion is elevated in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus

Platelet-activating factor (PAF) may be an early indicator of diabetic nephropathy. Increased urinary PAF levels in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients suggest kidney injury precedes microalbuminuria, offering a new diagnostic marker.
