Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if vision-dependent mechanisms influence refractive development in adolescent primates.
  • To examine the effects of form deprivation on ocular growth during the juvenile phase.

Main Methods:

  • Unilateral form deprivation was induced in four rhesus monkeys by eyelid fusion.
  • Deprivation onset was between 3.7 and 5 years of age (human equivalent: 15-20 years).
  • Ocular effects were measured using cycloplegic retinoscopy and A-scan ultrasonography.
